“A person of enormous influence.”
— Authority Magazine
Lunatic creative recording and performing artist Cory Cullinan is many things: Stanford Music grad, Master of Recording Arts, entrepreneur, teacher, author, speaker, producer, studio owner, community builder, lifelong learner, and philosopher poet goofball, which BTW is like totally a thing. From the moment music saved his soul when 2/3 of his family died in one year as a kid, he knew he’d give back with what saved him.
Known for his breadth, sophistication and humor as an artist, he’s equally adept at writing pop songs, avant-garde electronica, soundtracks, musical theatre, children’s songs, and full orchestral and operatic works performed by major orchestras and Grammy-winning opera stars. He has chart hits in three decades and songs in major movies. His lane is diversity — definitely not what a commercial artist in these times is supposed to do. If given the choice, he’d rather be semi-successful than stodgy, safe and square.
Touring nationally as both Cory Cullinan and chart-topping family musician Doctor Noize, he plays everything from his innovative virtuosic one-man-band audience-interaction loop recording shows as a singer and multi-instrumentalist known to brazenly write and record new pieces with audiences live, to his revolutionary symphony shows introducing newcomers to the orchestra. He’s a musical entrepreneur who fuels himself with inspiration from his wide range of music and teaching projects and interactions.
An active teacher who feels it’s essential to his continued adventurousness as an artist and empathy as a human, Cullinan runs Stanford’s acclaimed summer Recording Arts Program; is Chair of the Pikes Peak State College Recording Arts Technology Program Advisory Board; and is a former Recording Arts Professor at University of Colorado Denver. As a team and community builder, he’s been Director of Music Technology & Recording Arts at Regis University; an award-winning high school Arts, Communication & Technology Department Head at Pinewood School; and teaches popular Workshops and Artist In Residencies for both adults and children. He was elected to the Boards of the Recording Academy, Children’s Music Network, Stanford Alumni for Climate Action, and Christian Youth Theater (as an agnostic!); and won a Stanford STARS Award for his volunteer service leading a campaign securing the largest Stanford Reunion attendance ever.
Cullinan designed, constructed, and literally lives at his own five-room dream multimedia production facility. He produces other artists who pique his interest and seek the joy of seeing creations through to the highest standards of artistic integrity, including up-and-comers. But his #1 gig is husband and father to three action/adventure superwomen who fuel him with inspiration and purpose. His wife Janette is a trailblazer as a blind corporate leader and Executive Coach; daughter Sidney Grace is a multimedia writer, director, producer and Silver Scholar at Yale School of Management; and daughter Riley Max is a recording, performing and visual artist and Harvard undergrad.
Cory Cullinan strives to make the world a more purposeful and thoughtful place though music, words, teaching and learning. Follow his adventures through his Noizeletter.
