Reach Studios Backup

This is so much better than recording in a big corporate studio.

on Reach Studios

Here’s a tour of Reach Studios’ facilities, designed and owned by recording artist and teacher Cory Cullinan after years of recording in studios designed and run by engineers.

Control Room WPPS test

A beautiful workspace with Genelec speakers; sound treatment to hear and mix precisely; an 88-key weighted master keyboard controller; a vocal iso booth; and software like Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools and Sibelius. A window streams natural light over a custom drop-down worktable and space for a group to sit and listen. Wired to five rooms with different acoustical properties, it has a double studio glass window for direct visibility to the main…

This top-secret Studio Closet dungeon stores Reach’s gear, but it’s also wired with 2 inputs and auxiliary lines for double duty as an iso room to record guitar amps and other eclectic needs.  All monsters in the Closet are supersonic in nature and of your own creation.

Tracking Room

Soundproofed and treated for pristine recording without reverberation, it’s wired with 16 inputs and headphone jacks to hear any other room and fitted with a Yamaha digital piano. It’s an inspiring place to record and a peaceful place to rehearse. The window gives direct visibility to your Control Room Producer and Engineer. A flatscreen with an Apple TV displays lyrics, videos, teaching materials, or mirrors the Control Room computer screen.

Retro Room

The new room! This recording and party pad used to be the studio’s indoor soccer turf field (that’s not a joke… see below) and has references to its former identity all over the room. With 16 ins and outs to the Control Room, double walls for isolation, and impeccable sound treatment, it also serves as our Retro Lounge for anyone recording here — with a fully functioning disco ball, usable wall-mounted lightsabers, vintage tabletop arcade game with 412 of the most beloved 80s games, record player, CD and cassette boombox, plush retro furniture, and a TV/VHS unit with only three movies to choose from: Star WarsThe Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. Happy you are. We record horns, strings and more here.

Piano & Choir Room

A gorgeous acoustic space with hardwood flooring and 22-foot ceilings features a grand piano and space for bass and more. Reach has recorded a 36-voice choir in this room over a recording of the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s wired to the Control Room downstairs with inputs and headphone jacks to hear and talk to other rooms.

Fitness Room

Sometimes what we do between takes matters just as much. This fully functional cardio and strength training area has rubber flooring, free weights, medicine balls, weighted bars, pull-up bars, fitness bands, slides, yoga mats, blocks, push-up handles, a recumbent exercise bike, a step machine, a dual basketball hoop game, darts, and a giant 50? TV with broadcast, DVD and Apple TV. A great place to blow off steam between takes.

Hallways & Facilities

Rest & Relaxation

A private, meticulously clean restroom on the Studio Floor is exclusive to Reach Studios guests to make sure your whole day is elegant and comfortable. We’re installing a shower for guests in 2027.

Field Of Dreams

An alternative reverberant space for acoustic drums, vocals, or more, this fun room is wired with 16 inputs and headphone jacks to hear other rooms. It’s also a professional-grade indoor turf field with rubber infill and a place to relax playing soccer, dodgeball or just tossing the football between takes. And it’s the only indoor field in Colorado with a disco ball.

Reviewers, artists, collaborators, companies, institutions and students alike laud Cory’s artful and meticulous production values. Find quotes on that all over this site. Here’s a video on what he calls his “soundscaping” and some recordings he’s produced for other artists. Or explore his Cory Cullinan and Doctor Noize albums.

Teenage Cory and Mark Van Horn made their first recordings in a reel-to-reel analog studio they built in the janitor’s closet of the apartment complex Mark’s father managed. He’s since designed and built his own production house Reach Studios.

He’s created chart-topping songs, iTunes Essential Recordings, major film and TV music, documentary and commercial soundtracks, musical theatre and orchestral commissions, and hit app music. Here’s a sample of his production.

Cory owns Reach Studios, his personally-designed and constructed five-room Colorado production facility. Primarily built for his own productions, he also uses it as a production and teaching facility for artists and students he teams up with and takes an interest in.

The best way to learn is to do. So Cory’s select Reach students are also composers, recording engineers and entrepreneurs by design. In order to truly reach, you must risk and publish in your field.
