Director Sidney Cullinan to Entertainment Flair

I found it was really powerful to use splashes of the visuals to emphasize what was happening in the music. In the beginning, the visuals emphasize the more unnerving parts of the music, but eventually the visual flashes highlight the humanity in the audio portion.Contrasting black space and footage, I wanted the visual component to both confuse and comfort the audience.

There were no scores, no outlines. The soundtrack was recorded in the moment. The visuals evolved afterward, under Sidney’s eye. Sidney Cullinan approached the visual piece with a minimalist strategy: black space and flickering moments of color. The idea started as a pacing tool but became something more.The vocals from Riley came later still, adding a connective tissue of emotion.“I really wanted them involved in the project—and I really want their generation involved in all decisions moving forward,” Cullinan said.
