Extraordinary. Literally so out of the ordinary… and moving… and off-balance making… Sovery different from anything else I have ever seen… and that covers a range of 8 decades!

2025 Alive takes audiences on a journey through the present moments… a surreal realm whereit’s difficult to differentiate between politics and culture. It opens with shots of everyday life andthen shifts to visuals from news outlets… where talking heads discuss the latest events and theirpossible effects. As the images come faster and faster, they assume a surreal milieu that initiallyconveys an overwhelming sense of confusion, followed by a feeling of catharsis as the scrollingimages release pent-up emotions. The film closes with snapshots of real people enjoying life, smiling, and connecting with others — an amazing juxtaposition of authenticity against thehollowness of current events.

On its own this would havebeen quite the statement, but… Sidney Cullinan is a compelling director and shadows theunsettling soundtrack. The video is birthed in prolonged darkness, the only light shed by glitchycomputer graphics… with shots of the 99% going about their days. As the audio disintegrates sodoes the imagery, and it’s not long before clips of the unrelenting news cycle and politicalcommentators shatter the peace. But… Max’s voice and the human instruments pierce the sonicshadows with hope and resilience. So do the scenes of humanity. This is a hell of an audio visualproduction that only really makes sense when it’s seen and heard.
